How often should you change engine oil in Pakistan?
Oil change intervals for mineral, semi synthetic and fully synthetic engine oil, and when Lahore traffic and dust mean changing sooner.
The short answer
Follow the interval in your owner’s manual first. As a common guide, many workshops change mineral oil about every 5,000 km, semi synthetic about every 7,500 km and fully synthetic about every 10,000 km. Most manuals also give a time limit, often 6 to 12 months, for cars that are driven little.
When to change sooner
Manuals often list a shorter “severe service” interval. Driving that commonly counts as severe:
- Stop-and-go city traffic for most of your driving
- Dusty or unpaved roads
- Many short trips where the engine never fully warms up
- Long idling with the AC on in summer
- Towing or carrying heavy loads
Check the oil between changes
With the engine off and the car on level ground, pull the dipstick, wipe it, push it back fully and pull it out again. The level should sit between the two marks. Top up with the same grade if it is near the lower mark, and get the car checked if you have to top up often.
Change the oil filter every time
A new filter with every oil change keeps the fresh oil clean. Every kit in our oil change kit builder includes the matching filter for your car.

Questions
Is it bad to change engine oil too early?+
It does not harm the engine, it only costs more. Changing too late is what causes wear.
Does the oil need changing if I barely drive?+
Yes. Oil ages over time even when the car is parked, so follow the time limit in your manual as well as the kilometres.
