When to replace your car’s engine air filter
How to tell when the engine air filter is dirty, why dust in Lahore matters, and how the cabin AC filter is different.
Check it at every oil change
The engine air filter stops dust and grit reaching the engine. Take it out and hold it up to the light. If it is dark, clogged or light barely passes through, replace it. Your owner’s manual gives a replacement interval, and dusty conditions often mean replacing it sooner.
Signs of a clogged air filter
- The filter looks dark grey or black
- Weaker acceleration
- The engine feels sluggish under load
Engine air filter vs cabin (AC) filter
They are different parts. The engine air filter cleans the air the engine breathes. The cabin filter cleans the air coming through your AC vents. A weak or musty-smelling AC often means the cabin filter is due.
