How to choose the right car battery
Signs of a weak battery and how to pick the correct size and Ah rating for your car.
Signs your battery is weak
- The engine cranks slowly, especially in the morning
- Headlights dim when the engine idles
- You need jump starts
- The battery is swollen or the terminals are heavily corroded
Match the size and rating
A battery must physically fit the tray, have the terminals on the correct side and meet the capacity (Ah) your car needs. The easiest check is the old battery’s label or your owner’s manual. Each battery in our shop lists the cars it fits.
Look after it
- Keep the terminals clean and tight
- Avoid leaving lights or accessories on with the engine off
- If the car sits unused for weeks, start it and drive it regularly
